INAUGURATION OF "NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL HIMALAYA YOGA OLYMPIAD"

The Pre-conference to the 17th International Conference on Yoga was inaugurated by Sri Kailas Bagaria on the 9th of December, 2007, at Mangala Mandir, Prashanti. Marking the beginning of "National and International Himalayan Yoga Olympiad - 2007", inaugurated by lighting the lamp on December 15, 2007.
The main purpose of Olympiad, (the Yoga, its Underlying Mechanisms, Dr H R Nagendra is to bring comprehensive approach on Yoga and its perception to educate the younger generation. The preliminary competitions were held at various States of India and abroad and concluded with the final message of "Unity in Diversity" at Prashanti on the eve of the International Conference to be held from the 16th of December 2007 at the same venue.
Under the able guidance of Prof. NVC Swamy, Dean of Academic studies and Ravindra Acharya, coordinator of Himalaya Yoga Olympiad the participants from several states of India Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajastan, Tamil Nadu and the inmates of Prashanti
Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea took part in Olympiad - 2007. They were further trained at Prashanti in advanced theory and practice of "Yogásanas", "Kriyás", "Bandhas", "Mudrás" and "Pránáyama" that bestow holistic personality development on the youth.
In his welcome address Dr H R Nagendra, Vice Chancellor, impressed the youth participants of Himalayan Olympiad that Yoga does not promote competition but through cooperation augments a move towards perfection, to build an ideal India as visualized by Swami Vivekananda. Marching towards better health and harmonious social order with high moral values of life Dr Nagendra said, The progress does not mean physical fitness or multi-storied
