4.1 Concept of Stress
STRESS-INDUCED PROBLEMS AND THEIR MANAGEMENT
Thus stuck with the goals of accumulating wealth, the purpose for which it is accumulated, will itself, be in jeopardy. Man ultimately wants to be happy, have a harmonious, peaceful life and live in pleasant surroundings. But this very purpose is lost in our mad rush for affluence. And this is the paradox of the modern high-tech era. Stress is the challenge, by the conquering of which we can achieve higher levels of growth.

Management of Stress
A common man in this modern society tries to cope with stress often by resorting to smoking, drinking, sex or drugs. Amongst men with great ambitions like the ‘A’ type personalities, in whom the problems of stress are more prevalent, these methods are on the increase. But they have no real solutions to the problem which makes matters worse.

Smoking, it is well-known, increases the heart beat and stimulates the system. Tobacco produces more carbon monoxide and thus increases the load on the heart. The risk factor of coronary diseases will increase. Medical research has warned of the dangers of cigarette smoking and the laws have made it mandatory for cigarette packets to carry the statutory warning ‘Cigarette smoking is injurious to health’.
