5.1 Human Values -11

The great human values described in Bhagavadgita are presented here.

Ksanti

Ksama is absence of retaliation.

Sometimes people behave in irrational ways due to hurt feelings. We need to understand the helplessness of such a person and forgive him.

A child coming home, kicks his mother. The mother wonders what can be the problem. Why does the child behave so, what could have happened? Maybe there was pressure outside, someone hurt him, or something happened. Instead of slapping the child back, the mother starts fondling the child and asks the cause. If we extend the same understanding towards people who misbehave with us, then we can handle them wisely.

Because of our sensitivity we get hurt. But if our sensitivity can extend further, so that we understand the helplessness of the other person, and his situation, then his behavior towards us is not going to hurt us so much.

Sensitivity brings vulnerability. Because of sensitivity one becomes helpless. Like the eyeball that cannot tolerate a dust particle. If a dust particle falls on the eye-ball, the eye immediately starts watering due to irritation. It has to be washed for relief. Mind of a sadhaka becomes like an eyeball.
